Holly

I don’t think I can look back at my teens or early 20’s and not think of a time that Ellie wasn’t part of it, influence it or make that time of my life what it was.

She was such a big part of my life for so long; someone I respected, admired, laughed at and with, and at unfortunately at times argued with; but that’s what raw, real friendship is. It’s not all rosey and Ellie and I challenged each other but out of love.

She always stood up to things that she felt was unjust and she was never afraid to state it. She was the kind of girl that as soon as she walked into the room she would literally turn heads, but she never thought she did. She was so quick witted and always came out with some classic one liners. Even though she won’t physically be part of my life anymore, she will always be in my memories, my heart and my love.

I think of her constantly and always will. There are so many memories of Ellie and I, things that I will always remember;

  • Her wearing the shortest skirts to school - but she had the legs for it!

  • Being the Wonder Bra queen!

  • She loved reading Jilly Cooper books when she was about 15.

  • She was the first person I think in the whole school to get a mobile phone - the Nokia brick!

  • Our science lessons (where she would get kicked out of most most of the time)

  • Baileys. She would have an expensive bottle of that when we would all go out onto the Heath when we were 15-16 and everyone else would have Hooch and cheap crap!

  • Loving Nutella.

  • Thunderstorms. I am scared of them and she would always text me when we were younger to ask if I was ok.

  • Wrapping presents. She would wrap them so beautifully and loved doing it. My wrapping was the opposite.

  • Britney. Enough said.

  • The Little Mermaid. Again, enough said.

  • S Club Seven - dancing to it at the venue with a Smirnoff Ice in hand

  • Shaggy, It Wasn’t Me - again dancing around like idiots.

  • Greece. Had such a fun holiday with her in our 20’s. We rode horses on the beach, partied all night and had so much fun.

  • Getting ready to go out - she would always straighten my hair

  • Going to The Venue or cactus Pit nearly every weekend

  • Pasta, pesto and frankfurters - it was our signature dish (you really should try it).

  • Perfume. Ellie would always have “her” perfume - for me the smells of Jean Paul Gaultier and Chanel Allure will always remind me of her.

  • Minnie Mouse. Wearing Minnie ears at school when she came back from Disney world!

  • Madonna. Singing Sooner or Later for an audition for a music evening at school - she lay across a table - the poor music teacher didn’t know where to look bless him ha!

  • Going to my first Madonna concert with her

  • Friends. She was obsessed - had all the videos and then DVD’s.

  • Twin Peaks. The music will always remind me of her - I hear it now and then on my baby’s lullaby music and I always think it’s Ellie sending me a message.

  • Sex And The City. Ellie screamed with excitement when we went to the cinema to watch the film!

  • Tiffany’s. She loved the film and the jewellery

  • Driving. She always forgot to put her lights on when driving at night and we would laugh.

  • She would have the longest bubble baths!!

  • She would nickname me H, Dollface or Treacle.

  • She was a grammar snob - would hate bad spelling, grammar or punctuation - even in texts.

  • Was the most Jewish person I knew who loved pork sausages!

I could go on and on, like I’m sure a lot of people could - so many memories.

She was one hell of a girl. If you ever met her you never forgot, and I most definitely won’t.
